On the Road Again!

Last Wednesday I flew to Charlotte, NC to visit the site of our upcoming retreat and work out the final details of the event with the venue staff.

I also took a road trip – well, three road trips to be more precise – all around both North and South Carolina.

Along the highway in NC

Along the road in SC

The purpose of the road trips?

To visit as many local scrapbook (LSS), stamp (RSS) and papercraft (PC) stores as I could in three days.

The list included 15 stores (there were a few more than that, but I knew I couldn’t hit them all in the time I had available).

My goals for visiting all of those stores?

To see what each had to offer; to meet the owners and learn what led them to owning an LSS, RSS or PC; to see how I might assist them in gaining more customers; and of course, to share the news of our upcoming retreat. Oh yeah, and to find some new treasures!

I left each store a little poorer in the wallet and a lot richer in my knowledge. I left having learned about some unique products and having seen the latest and greatest from many of my favorite manufacturers. And, I made some new friends along the way.

Total miles driven: 772

Total stores visited: 11

Total experience: Priceless!

What was the correct word for Charlotte this week?

MEMORIES

Here are the clues that were given for this week for Charlotte:

Friday, 10/7: Kept

Saturday, 10/8: Lost

Sunday, 10/9: Happy

Monday, 10/10: Creative

How did we come up with this week’s clues for Memories? Well, our memories are often kept, either in our minds or in our scrapbooks, or even in the cards we receive to mark a special occassion. As we age, some of our oldest memories may be lost, sometimes due to aging issues and sometimes just because so many new ones have taken their place. All of our memories are worth documenting, but most of us focus only on the happy memories. And creative? Well, most of us get get great joy from being creative in the way we document our memories, for us and for others. And of course, most of us are familiar with Creative Memories, a company that has been providing the industry with products since the beginning of what we now affectionately call “the industry!”

The rest of the clues will remain a secret, at least for now. But, you never know when they might pop up and what they might enable!

Why memories? They are such an important part of life and capturing them is often our motivation when we scrapbook, or acknowledge an occassion or kindess with a handmade card or papercraft item.

May all of us have many more wonderful memories to share and recall!

Congrats again to  Cheryl P. – we can’t wait to spoil you rotten!

Another Winner! This Week’s FREE Orlando Ticket Was Just WON!

Wow, only three clues and we have a winner!

Please join me in congratulating Jill C. on winning this week’s free ticket to our Orlando & Scrap & Stamp Retreat (loud applause)!

What was the correct word for Orlando this week?

SPACESHUTTLE (SPACE SHUTTLE)

Here are the clues that were given for this week for Orlando:

Friday, 10/7: Reusable

Saturday, 10/8: Of Service

Sunday, 10/9: Powerful

How did we come up with this week’s clues for Space Shuttle? Well to start, Florida is know for being the launch site for the U.S. space shuttles. The shuttles were designed to be reusable; they were of service in many missions, including replenishing supplies for the Space Station; and, if you have ever seen a launch, especially in person, you know just how powerful the shuttle is. The blast generated when it lifts off is simply awesome!

The other clues will remain a secret now that the ticket has been won…you just never know if they might come in handy for another week’s word.

Why Space Shuttle? Well, I recently surprised my husband with a trip to Florida so he could experience something he’s always wanted to experience: a space shuttle launch. Seeing his first, and the nation’s LAST launch, brought tears to our eyes. We had such an amazing experience and will always remember Florida fondly after seeing the last shuttle blast off from there. Truly Amazing!!!

Congrats again to Jill C. – we can’t wait to spoil you rotten!
